An animated dish for the eyes
From September 6 to 11, Fantoche, the biggest animation show in Switzerland, will conquer the cinematic screens of Baden and celebrate its 10th anniversary. This year’s anniversary edition of Fantoche will provide its audience with a rich programme, a true eye candy. It will be served with a great variety of new delicacies. Once again, the programmes "International competition" as well as "World Wide Hits" will build the festival’s core. The competition focuses on innovative works of young talents. It showcases 34 films from 20 countries that have been selected from about 700 submissions. The international jury will award the most convincing and daring works with five prizes and awards that total 21’000 Swiss francs. The Public’s Choice Award will pay 2’000 Swiss francs. The programme "World Wide Hits" will show 32 films from 14 countries and present highlights, award winning films of other festivals as well as entertaining mainstream productions. The most popular film will be selected by the audience and be given 5’000 Swiss francs.
Images from the global village…
"The World in the Blink of an Eye" titles a series of thematic programmes that deal with cultural identities and the origins of images in the era of globalisation. Animation programmes from Asia, Brazil, Europe and America demonstrate the influence of the cultural and geographical background on the medium – even in our times of digital reproduction. The historical film blocks "Kitchens, Class and Cultures: Tales of Urban Life" present a funny, often cheeky insight into the urban and rural daily grind of the last 90 years. Fantoche also presents film schools from the Czech republic (Prague), France (Paris), the USA (Valencia) and China (Beijing). The main focus lies on tomorrow’s talents.
and a Swiss experience
Another basic ingredient of the Fantoche menu is the programme "Swiss Scene" which consists of retrospectives and previews: What has been drawn, worked, cut and processed on the computer within the last two years? What is optimistic about Swiss animation? Works from students of different Swiss art and film schools will be presented as well as independent productions. Besides, Lucerne’s animation studio Swamp will present W.O.W, the first animated Swiss satire show that regularly carries on at Swiss TV. It keeps tabs on celebrities.
In addition to the film programme, Fantoche also provides a platform to strengthen and nourish Swiss animation: "Animation Campus" offers the opportunity to discuss education institutes. "Swiss Animation meets MEDIA" informs about the rules and regulations of the European financing, distributing and promoting programme.
Animated dish for the eyes
Eight feature animation films will be presented as premieres at Fantoche. Such as Masaaki Yuasas extravagant debut MIND GAME, TAMALA 2010 of the Japanese underground success duo t.o.L. or HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE of the Anime master Hayao Miyazaki. LA MAGIA RUSSICA by Yonathan and Masha Zur is dedicated to the Russian Fyodor Chytruk, a grand master of animation. The documentary reveals many things that have long been concealed behind the iron curtain. Another highlight will be the work-in-progress presentation accompanying the feature film AACHI & SSIPAK from the Korean JTeam Studio.
A wider audience will have the possibility to get closer to animators within the talks "Meet the Artists" talks. Children’s programmes, lectures, discussions, exhibitions and the mini festival "Minimotion" complete the profile of Fantoche 05.
