European Film Academy turns to the Young Audience

Six European cities to participate in Young Audience Day screenings and vote

To celebrate this year’s 25th European Film Awards, the European Film Academy (EFA) and EFA Productions launch a new award for a film addressed to the young audience: The European Film Academy Young Audience Award. To give the new award special attention, it is presented as a separate event.

EFA Chairman Yves Marmion: “It has long been our wish to shed a special light on the younger audience, the people who will be watching European films in the years and decades to come. Thanks to the support by Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) and in co-operation with great national partners we are now able to present this award with the right network and structure. Of course, it is a particular joy for us to be able to present it in this special year when we’ll celebrate the 25th European Film Awards and we hope to be able to extend this network and welcome further partners in the coming years.”

The initiative will kick off this year with a network of the following six partners: EYE Film Institute Netherlands (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), Film Center Serbia (Belgrade, Serbia), Danish Film Institute (Copenhagen, Denmark), Deutsche Kindermedienstiftung Goldener Spatz (Erfurt, Germany), Swedish Film Institute (Stockholm, Sweden), and Museo Nazionale del Cinema (Turin, Italy).

On the Young Audience Film Day on 10 June, three films nominated by EFA will be screened to a young audience (10 – 13 year-olds) in Amsterdam, Belgrade, Copenhagen, Erfurt, Stockholm and Turin. And it is the young audience that will act as a jury and vote for the winner right after the screenings. The presentation of the award will take place on the same day in Erfurt.

The screenings in the individual cities will be documented on www.europeanfilmawards.eu  – for young film lovers (and their parents and teachers).

The European Film Academy Young Audience Award is organised and presented by the European Film Academy and EFA Productions with the support of the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM). The national Young Audience Film Day events will be organised with the support of the respective national partners.
