THE DOWNFALL represents Germany in the race for the OSCAR
The independent expert jury, which was appointed by GERMAN FILMS to selection the German entry to compete for the OSCAR for the best Foreign Language Film, has chosen THE DOWNFALL by Oliver Hirschbiegel.

The jury on its decision: with the film The Downfall Oliver Hirschbiegel and Bernd Eichinger succeed in achieving the haunting and demystifying cineamtic realisation of the last days of Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich."

The production by Constantin Film, Munich (producer and screenwriter: Bernd Eichinger) with support from ARD Degeto Film and ORF in co-production with EOS Production and RAI Cinema had its world premiere as a gala screening in the Roy Thompson Hall of the Toronto International Film Festival. The film had an extremely positive reception from the audience and international press. The acting performances of all of the players attracted particular attention.

THE DOWNFALL opened in Germany on September 16 and had posted around 750,000 admissions after just a week on release (dist: Constantin Film).

EOS Distribution GmbH has already sold the film to about twenty territories including important countries like France, Italy, Spain, Russia and Japan.

THE DOWNFALL was funded by the German Federal Film Board (FFA), FilmFernsehFonds Bayern and the Bayerischer BankenFonds.
