The complete programme of Doclisboa'18 was revealed. The Festival takes place from 18 to 28 October 2018.

Doclisboa’18 will welcome a total of 243 films68 world premieres and 22 international premieres, with films coming from 54 countries.

In the International Competition 22 films will be presented– all of which will be screening for their world or international premiere. 18 films will compete in the Portuguese Competition.

This year's New Visions section brings us James Benning and Mike Hoolboom as guest filmmakers. New Visions’ thematic focus, Transmission, Imagined Territories, will condense one of the festival’s through-lines: that the act of filming confronts us with other possible worlds. Jorge CramezManuel Botelho and Rui Simões will bring us works that show this. Actor Jean-François Stévenin is also a guest of this year’s festival, where he will present restored copies of his three directed films.

The section From the Earth to the Moon presents the most recent works of key directors of the documentary panorama. The already announced films of Wang BingFrederick WisemanRithy PahnStefano Savona and Želimir Žilnik, are now joined by another leading name: Michael Moore, with his latest Fahrenheit 11/9. We also highlight the world premieres of two Portuguese films: PE SAN IE by Rosa Coutinho Cabral, and The Plan by Steve Sprung.

Heart Beat is the section of Doclisboa that fills the festival with music and dance: we get to know Chilly Gonzales at the opening, followed by Depeche Mode, jazz, country, fado and dancehall as we continue. Two punk ladies will sparkle on the Heart Beat’s screen: Joan Jett and Vivienne Westwood. To evoke the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin, we present the legendary musical The Blues Brothers.

The Greens Years section opens with a special programme of first films by three celebrated Portuguese directors, David Pinheiro VicenteCláudia Varejão and Miguel Gomes. In addition to the section’s regular showcase of films by new filmmakers, end-of-course works from the invited school, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Ghent University (KASK) will also be exhibited.

Arché, the festival’s professional laboratory for the development of a film, has a total of 12 projects this year, of which 4 are Portuguese. The tutors for this year’s edition are Marta AndreuLuciano Rigolini and Andrés Duque.

This year, Doclisboa'18 will take place from October 18 to 28, at Culturgest, Cinema São Jorge, Cinemateca Portuguesa and Cinema Ideal.
