Dazzling opening set for Berlinale 60th
The 60th Berlin International Film Festival will open tomorrow, February 11, 2010 with the world premiere of the Chinese film Tuan Yuan directed by Wang Quan’an, in the presence of the director and the actors Lisa Lu, Ling Feng, Monica Mo and Jin Na. With Klaus Wowereit, the gay mayor of Berlin looking on, Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick will open the festival along with Jury President Werner Herzog. The event will be broadcast live on television and music for the gala will be provided by Max Raabe & Palast Orchester. Anke Engelke, who speaks flawless English, will host the evenings proceedings. The opening gala celebrity list of "prominent Germans" expected to attend the event include: Old-time actor Mario Adorf, actress Senta Berger, legendary nonogenarian Berlin producer, Artur Brauner, directors Detlev Buck, Doris Dörrie, and Andreas Dresen, currently hot actress Martina Gedeck, producer Thomas Kretschmann, actor Joachim Król, director Dani Levy, senior actor Armin Mueller-Stahl, cross-dressing actor/actress Rosa von Praunheim, ever popular actress Katja Riemann, hot director Oskar Roehler, emminent director Volker Schlöndorff, actress Maria Schrader, star director Tom Tykwer, and the internationally known director Wim Wenders, of "Paris Texas" fame. Among prominent German politicians who will attend is the former German foreign minister Joschka Fischer. Among Hollywood personalities who will be seen on the red carpet on opening night is actress Renee Zellweger whose picture adorned the front pages today arriving at Tegel airport in a flurry of snow. Ms, Zellweger, who has become a Berlin regular since her triumphant appearance here in "Chicago" in 2004, will also be sitting on the international Jury headed up by German director Werner Herzog. Other international stars expected to attend are France"s monstre sacre Gerard Depardieu, Daniel Day-Lewis and Ewan McGregor from England, Penelope Cruz of Spain, and perhaps, the most eagerly anticipated arrival of all, will be Leonardo DiCaprio straight from good old Hollywood.
