Danny Glover's Bamako screens at Pan African Film and Arts Festival

Academy Award winning actor Danny Glover hosted a special screening of the feature film BAMAKO on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 6:45 p.m. during the 15th Annual Pan African Film and Arts Festival. Filmed in Mali, the U.S., and France, BAMAKO tells the story of a bar singer and her husband Chaka. Chaka is out of work and the couple is on the verge of breaking up. In the courtyard of the house they share with other families, a trial court has been set up. African civil society spokesmen have taken proceedings against the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) whom they blame for Africa's woes. Amidst the pleas and the testimonies, life goes on in the courtyard. Chaka does not seem to be concerned by this novel Africa's desire to fight for its rights. BAMAKO is produced by and features actor Danny Glover. PAFF’s screening is BAMAKO is in conjunction with Africa Project Global and Christ Unity Church. For more information visit paff.org.

PAFF’s Children’s Festival, which features free screenings and arts and crafts for young children, took place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m at the AMC Magic Johnson Theatre.

PAFF also screened a variety of films from 11 a.m. until midnight at the AMC Magic Johnson Theatre.

The 15th Annual Pan African Film and Arts Festival runs through February 19, 2007 and will screen over 170 films from over 20 countries. A detailed listing and description of the 12-day festival's events can be found at www.paff.org.
