C.R.A.Z.Y., by director Jean-Marc Vallée Atlantic audience choice

MEDIA RELEASE
For Immediate Release

Oscar® Contender, C.R.A.Z.Y., Wins People’s Choice at the 25th Atlantic Film Festival

The 25th Atlantic Film Festival presented C.R.A.Z.Y., by director Jean-Marc Vallée, with The Movie Network People’s Choice Award. The Movie Network People’s Choice Award was chosen by the audience and presented at the The Movie Network Closing Night Party on September 24.

“This is the third time a French-language film has taken the coveted audience prize,” said Lia Rinaldo, Festival Director. “After What Remains of Us in 2004 and La Grande séduction in 2003, this seems to be an ongoing trend. We were so pleased that it became an Oscar® contender within 24 hours of our screening at the Festival.”

A box office smash in Québec and Canada’s submission to the Academy Awards ® for Best Foreign-Language Film category, C.R.A.Z.Y. is the story of a father's love for his five sons and one son's love for his father, a love so strong it compels him to live a lie. Zac Beaulieu is different from all his brothers, but desperate to fit in. When his faith falters and his relationship with his father crumbles, even his idol, David Bowie, can only offer so much solace. As he grows up, life takes Zac on a surprising and unexpected journey that ultimately leads him to accept his true nature and, even more importantly, leads his father to love him for who he really is. This coming-of-age story is driven by wonderful performances and an evocative soundtrack full of the French classics loved by dad and the English rock that fuels his son's dreams. A mystical fable about a modern-day, Christ-like figure, C.R.A.Z.Y. exudes the beauty, the poetry and the madness of the human spirit in all of its contradictions.

The next (26th) Atlantic Film Festival will take place September 14-23, 2006.
