Childrens' Film Festival Kicks off in NY

New York International
Children's Film Festival

February
2 - 12

Highlights of
this event include a Retrospective of Aardman Animations (also featuring the
making of Chicken
Run
), short films in competition- in which audience members choose the
winners- and the screening of Disney's Recess: School's Out!

On February 2nd,
the New York International Children's Film Festival (NYICFF) moves into its
fourth year, continuing its mission to celebrate the best in both short and
feature length films for children and teens. The two-week festival centers on
an international and domestic slate of New Films in Competition -- 44 new works
selected from over 800 entries, with winners selected by audience ballot. This
year's festival kicks off with an Opening Night Gala screening of Disney's Recess:
School's Out!
. The festival will also offer: an Aardman Animations retrospective,
including a presentation on the making of Chicken Run with the film's
director Peter Lord and screenings of Angry Kid, Wallace And Gromit
and Rex The Runt
, a screening of The Miracle Worker, followed by
a Q&A with the film's stars Hallie Kate Eisenberg & Allison Elliott and premieres
of 37 other short and feature films.

NYICFF was founded to promote passionate, creative, meaningful films to children
and teens. "The lack of distribution for independent kids' films has made it
difficult for good works to find an audience. It is the festival's goal to bring
these tremendous films and audiences together, and by doing so, encourage innovative
filmmakers to continue to create for young people," says NYICFF co-director,
Emily Shapiro. Since its inaugural festival, NYICFF, which is supported by The
Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, has shown phenomenal growth with
over 10,000 attending last year's sold out festival.

The New York International Children's Film Festival (NYICFF) launches Friday,
February 2nd at The Directors Guild of America (DGA, 110 W. 57th St.) at 6:00
PM. All other films will be screened at The Cantor Film Center, 36 East 8th
Street.
