Charlotte Rampling to accept award from Stockholm fest

The 19th Stockholm International Film Festival presents the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2008 to English-French actor Charlotte Rampling. Charlotte Rampling will visit the festival to accept the award in person and to meet the audience in a special Face2face.

The motivation is as follows:
For her impressive portrayals of some of the most memorable female characters in modern cinema. Some might be strong-willed, others more vulnerable, but they have all been depicted with intelligence and a precise feeling for their lives within. Few actors enter the big empty screen and inhabit it with the same grace, naturalness and confidence.

Charlotte Rampling was born in Sturmer, England in 1946. She was educated at Jeanne d'Arc Académie pour Jeunes Filles in Versailles, France and at the exclusive St. Hilda's school in Bushley, England. She was a model before turning to film in the comedy “The Knack ...and How to Get It” (1965), followed by roles in Georgy Girl (1966) and “Caduta degli dei, La” (1969). Rampling is best known for her role in Liliana Cavani´s “Portiere di notte, Il” (1974), where she played a concentration camp survivor who is reunited with the Nazi guard who tortured her throughout her captivity. In 1974, she co-starred with Sean Connery in “Zardoz” (1974), with Woody Allen in his “Stardust Memories” (1980), and with Paul Newman in “The Verdict” (1982).

Charlotte Rampling will attend the Stockholm International Film Festival to receive the Bronze Horse award in person as well as participate in a Face2Face in conjunction with the screening of her latest film “The Duchess”.

The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to honor and acknowledge a longstanding career and an outstanding achievement in cinema. The prestigious award, in the shape of a 16 lb Bronze Horse (the heaviest film award in the world), is a paraphrase on the Swedish Dala horse, designed by artist Fredrik Swärd.

The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award has previously been presented to actors and filmmakers like Roman Polanski, Lauren Bacall, David Lynch, Oliver Stone, Lasse Hallström and Paul Schrader.
