Berlinale Talent Campus: Spotlight on Young Professionals

“The Talent Campus provides an inspiring opportunity for filmmakers to come together and gives us all the chance to listen to and learn from each other“, summarizes film music composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love) his experience at the Berlinale Talent Campus. The concluding event of the Campus yesterday was the presentation of the awards: the winner of the Volkswagen Score Competition is Alasdair Reid from Great Britain. In a vote, the 520 talents from 101 countries named High Maintenance by Phillip Van (USA) as Talent Movie of the Week. The Berlin Today Award had already been presented to the Brazilian Anna Azevedo during the Campus opening ceremony.

From 11 to 16 February, young film-makers had the chance to deepen their experience during workshops, lectures and discussions, to make new contacts, and to look over the shoulders of international film professionals: Charlotte Rampling, Wim Wenders, Park Chan-wook, Michel Gondry, Matthew Barney, cinematographer Christopher Doyle and Anthony Dod Mantle, composer Stephen Warbeck and film editors Jim Clark and Angie Lam and others were there to help the young talents with word and deed. The Campus welcomed 16.000 visits for the numerous public events at the House of World Cultures and the special programme "Films on Hunger, Food & Taste".

"The Campus atmosphere is charged with energy, ideas and a thirst for knowledge. It's incredible meeting so many people from different countries and realising that we all share the same passion", says Dagmar Niehage, a young producer from Cologne and participant in this year's Campus.

Alasdair Reid – Winner of the Volkswagen Score Competition

The award was presented by Volkswagen's Christiane Krebs-Hartmann. The jury: Stephen Warbeck, Thomas Struck, Martin Todsharow and Martin Steyer.
