Berlinale Talent Campus exports its concept

International Offspring for the Berlinale Talent Campus

With the Talent Campus India (19 - 23 July), that finished only recently, the idea behind Berlinale Talent Campus was exported to Asia for the first time. 50 film talents from all over India joined the workshops of Osian's Cinefan Film Festival to learn from the likes of cameraman Christopher Doyle (In the Mood for Love) and Mohsen and Samira Makhmalbaf.

The Berlinale Talent Campus is extending its network further: This year similar events will be held at the film festivals in Kiev and Cape Town, in 2005 collaborations with Pusan and Buenos Aires are planned.

Berlin is the inspiration for the realization of this concept in the respective countries. The only difference is that each of the other festivals invites some 50 talents on a regional basis. The Berlinale Talent Campus acts as advisor for the individual festivals, while their programmes are adapted to meet each country's specific circumstances.

"New Delhi has shown that the idea behind Campus also works outstandingly well at a regional level. There are indeed several film schools and film colleges in India, but the young film makers could not be networked until now. Being there was a great experience - a very lively mixture with talents from places like Bangalore, Chennai, Bombay and Sri Lanka. These people certainly won't have met for the last time," says Christine Dorn, project manager of the Berlinale Talent Campus.

Talent Campus India - New Delhi
From 19 to 23 of July Osian's Cinefan Film Festival New Delhi, the festival of the Asian cinema, invited young film professionals to the India Habitat Center in New Delhi for the first time. Thanks to financial support by the Goethe Institut and the British Council, 50 talents were given the opportunity to take part in seminars, screenings and discussion groups and also to network with one another: One of the highlights of the Indian Campus was a two day session workshop on the evolution of documentaries with Andres Veiel (Black Box BRD, 2001; Addicted to Acting , 2004). Forthcoming - International Network

From 23 to 31 of October 2004 the Molodist Talent Campus in Kiev will welcome young film professionals from Russia and the Ukraine for the second time. (www.molodist.com)

From 16 to 19 of November 2004 young film professionals from South Africa will meet at the Talent Campus of the Sithengi Film & TV Market, part of the Cape Town World Cinema Festival. (http://www.sithengi.co.za)

In 2005 the Berlinale Talent Campus plans two further co-operations with the film festivals of Buenos Aires and Pusan.
