Bangkok International Festival Awards

The Golden Kinnaree Award brings to the film festival both a symbol of Thai mythology and a history for the Bangkok Int'l Film Festival's awards. The esthetically beautiful design of the award signifies principles, rationality and inspiration.
The figure of a half-human half-bird is called Kinnon for male and Kinnaree for female , and relates to the ancient beliefs in folklore referred to in Buddhism and Hinduism among countries in Asia, including Thailand. Accoding to Buddhist and Hindu legends, there is a place called Himapan which is located high in the Himalayas somewhere near the India-Nepal border. This forest is beneath the religious heaven and invisible to the eyes of mortals who may not approach it. Kinnon and Kinnaree have a head and torso of a human yet below the delicately tapered waist, a body, tail and legs of a bird. They are non-human beings which inhabit the mythical Himapan forest. The characteristics of Kinnon and Kinnaree are friendly, cheerful and peaceful. Kinnaree is especially renowned for her excellence in song, dance and her graceful form.
