First up in competition was animated film Innocence from Japanese director Mamoru Oshii, the sequel to his Ghost in the Shell. Following on was the arrival on the red carpet of Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai and actors Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi for 2046.
