Asia in the spotlights

The ninth day of this year's Festival (May 20) turned its eyes towards Asia.
First up in competition was animated film Innocence from Japanese director Mamoru Oshii, the sequel to his Ghost in the Shell.
Following on was the arrival on the red carpet of Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai and actors Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi for 2046.

Three features from different countries were screened in the Un Certain Regard section:
Poids Léger, a drama from French director Jean-Piere Améris about a tormented boxer;
the Portuguese director João Canijo's Noite Escura telling the story of a family whose lives explode;
and Sword in the Moon, the first martial-arts movie from the South Korean director Kim Eui-suk.
