Argentine road movie Bombon el Pero to open San Diego

Straight off the success of MACHUCA, its latest hit release, Media Arts Center San Diego's San Diego Latino Film Festival is proud to present Argentina's acclaimed film, BOMBÓN EL PERRO (Argentina/Spain, 96 min., 2004), August 12 - 18, 2005 at Mann Theatres Hazard Center (7510 Hazard Center Dr., San Diego, CA, 92108).

Carlos Sorin, director of Historias Minimas\Intimate Stories (screened in San Diego, June 2005) brings us his bittersweet story of Juan Villegas an unemployed gas station attendant who finds himself down on his luck until along comes Bombón, an enormous pedigree Argentine Dogo. The two new pals hit the dog show circuit in pursuit of fame, love and excitement. Sorin's use of 'non-actors' blurs the line between fact and fiction. The actors convincingly play themselves in the movie adding an endearing real human touch and genuine sincerity to the film. Winner at the San Sebastian International Film festival and the Argentinean Film Critics Association Awards.

BOMBÓN EL PERRO will be screened for ONE WEEK ONLY exclusively at MANN THEATRES HAZARD CENTER conveniently located off the 163 freeway at Friars Road (7510 Hazard Center Dr.) from August 12th (Fri) through August 18th (Thur).

San Diego Latino Film Festival's Monthly Film Series is presented by Santana's Mexican Grill. Additional sponsors include: Univision KBNT-TV, El Latino Newspaper, El Sol de Diego, El Mexicano, Yolanda S. Walther-Meade, 105.7 La Pantera, Telemundo 33, and Radio Latina 104.5 FM, James Irvine Foundation, and the San Diego Foundation.

BOMBÓN will screen five times daily from August 12-18 at 12:20, 2:30, 4:50, 7:10, and 9:30.

Tickets are $8.50 general admission, $6.50 students, seniors, & "Aficionados del Cine Latino" club members. BOMBÓN is not rated, but is recommended for mature audiences. In Spanish with English subtitles.
