Annecy's Animation Awarded

Annecy is the top ranking competitive international festival entirely dedicated
to animation. Over forty years after coming to the town, the Festival competition
is now open to four categories giving a diversity of techniques ranging through
watercolour to 3D, by way of paper cut-outs and plasticine. The categories:
short and feature fiction films, commissioned films (TV films and commercials,
etc.), school and graduation films and for the first time this year, symbolizing
a new art form, shorts and series made for the internet will also be awarded
a prize. The capacity to present and promote animation in all its different
forms has made Annecy a world point of reference for animation professionals
and a date not to be missed.

The Prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI Prize) was awarded to "Flux"
by Christopher Hinton (Canada) "for the original way in which the film
was designed and animated, and for its unique and very cinematic view of two
generations and their world. The film has a particularly sophisticated and satisfyingly
complete style". Special Mention:went ot "SHH" vy Adan Robb "for
the clarity and subtlety with which it has used animation to express its message".
"The jury would like to note the high level of the whole selection of school
and graduation films". The jury was composed of Joachim Kreck, Germany
Andrea Romeo, Italy Stanislav Ulver, Czech Republic.

Special programmes 2002 featured Czech and Slovak animation, a marvellous way
to pay tribute to the lavish and original productions coming from “the
Czech School of animation” and its creators. There was also be a large
dose of good humour coming from the other main theme of Annecy 2002 based on
laughter. Animation personalities were given ‘carte blanche’ to make
up ten programmes of films that make them giggle and grin. Laughter guaranteed!
ANNECY 2003 was announced to run from 2 to 7 June, 2003.
