Andy GarciaAndy Garcia will be attending the 35th Starz Denver Film Festival to receive the inaugural George Hickenlooper Honorary Award. The award will be presented by Governor John Hickenlooper following a screening of The Man from Elysian Fields

Andy Garcia lived the American dream, but kept a piece of his heart in Cuba. After settling in Florida as a child, Garcia's passion for acting grew, drawing him to Hollywood in the late 1970s, where his smoldering looks and commanding characters in Brian DePalma's brutal The Untouchables (1987) and Francis Ford Coppola's epic Godfather III (1990) (in which Garcia was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor) established him as a bankable star of his generation. Instead of following the prescribed path, Garcia came to gravitate towards intimate projects, many of which, over the years, personified his admirable range, without the sacrificing the artistry of his homeland.

The Man from Elysian Fields is directed by George Hickenlooper. The film stars Andy Garcia, Mick Jagger, Olivia Williams, Julianna Margulies and James Coburn. In the film, novelist Byron Tiller's (Garcia) inability to pay the bills strains relations with his wife. Desperate for any kind of income, he meets Luther Fox (Jagger), an Englishman who runs an exclusive escort service called Elysian Fields, and is offered a job.

Hiding his new employment from his wife, Byron's's first client, Andrea, is married to a much-older Pulitzer Prize-winning author whom Tiller greatly admires. Complications develop as he tries to separate a professional obligation to a client from a professional interest in her spouse.

The George Hickenlooper Honorary Award presentation and on-stage conversation will take place on Friday, November 9th at 9:30 at the L2 Arts & Culture Center.
