AmericaFree.tv Launches First Annual Virtual Film Festival

AmericaFree.tv, LLC (AFTV) www.americafree.tv,
a leading Internet streaming Television and Movie broadcaster, today announces its first online independent virtual film festival with a call for submissions from filmmakers of all genres. The festival, one of the first “all virtual” film fests, will honor films with awards, exposure to the AmericaFree.TV audience, and a $2,000 grand prize.

AmericaFree.TV will present the Grand Prize winner with a physical screening in Los Angeles to meet Academy Award Nominating rules on venue. Expert judges will select 10 finalists, which will be featured on the website www.americafree.tv beginning February 2, 2010.

In addition, over 9 million AFTV viewers will help to determine the best Indy films. AFTV will bestow a “People’s Choice” award based on viewership, and “Best of Genre” awards in key contest categories. During the festival, audience members will also be able to comment on the films using AFTV’s live chat feature.

Jeffrey Porro, PhD, is vice president of Content Acquisition for AFTV and story developer of “the Great Debaters,” produced by Oprah Winfrey (starring Denzel Washington). He believes the contest will increase AFTV viewership and provide great films with exposure. “We have studios like Echelon Films and Goliath, great distribution partners, fantastic judges, and millions of viewers waiting to discover new indies,” said Porro. “Last spring, one of our movies, Delivery Boy Chronicles, was picked-up for European Distribution based on loyal AFTV viewership.”

Judges for the online film festival include leaders from the UCLA film school, Crispin, Porter + Bogusky Advertising Agency, Hollywood screenwriters, New York TV and music industry execs.

Filmmakers may submit their entries through Without A Box service www.withoutabox.com or to www.americafree.tv with deadlines as follows:

- Early submission deadline by October 15, 2009 - $ 35 / app fee
- Regular submission deadline by November 15, 2009 - $ 50 / app fee
- Late submission deadline by December 15, 2009 - $ 75 / app fee

Awards: Tuesday, February 2, 2010 Winners will be screened during performances at Wilshire and Western in Los Angeles, at or near the Wiltern Theater.

“We recognize film lovers and producers want to find excellent content without traveling all over the country to independent film festivals,” said AFTV CEO T. Marshall Eubanks. “Every part of the movie industry is being reworked in the digital revolution, and it is now the turn of the Film Festival . People don’t realize the large carbon footprint of existing film festivals - the AmericaFree.tv Virtual Film Festival will be an excellent, green, and cost-effective way to connect distributors with up-and-coming Indy filmmakers.”

Sanna Choe Lund is the production manager of the festival. She has credits in Denmark and now New York. Choe Lund was production designer for Thomas Raft’s film, “the Family.” She has completed advanced education work in game design at the Danish Design School and majored in production design.
