Adjani host of next Montreal fest

The 2004 Montreal World Film Festival will pay tribute to French and international film star Isabelle Adjani, it was announced today by MWFF president Serge Losique.

"For us and for cinephiles worldwide, Isabelle Adjani is an extraordinary artist, an actress who is equally at home in transforming herself into her films' profound and exceptional characters or playing seemingly light roles with an expert touch," declared Mr. Losique. "The range and passion of her work has earned her advance membership in the pantheon of screen stardom alongside such illustrious names as Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Ingrid Bergman and Katharine Hepburn. Ms. Adjani has agreed to be our guest and we will be honoured by her presence."

Among her many noted screen roles are those in L'Histoire d'Adèle H. (dir. François Truffaut, 1975), The Tenant (Roman Polanski, 1976), The Brontë Sisters (André Téchiné, 1979), Possession (Andrzej Zulawski, 1981), Quartet (James Ivory, 1981), L'été meurtrier (Jean Becker, 1983), Mortelle randonnée (Claude Miller, 1983), Subway (Luc Besson, 1985), Camille Claudel (Bruno Nuytten, 1988), La Reine Margot (Patrice Chéreau, 1994) and Bon Voyage (Jean-Paul Rappeneau, 2003).

The 2004 Montreal World Film Festival will be held August 26 to September 6, 2004.
