The Biennial Adelaide Film Festival closed last night with the Australian premiere screening of Wong Kar-wai’s 2046.

The thirteen day Festival, the second in this new incarnation held in Adelaide, has been hailed a critical and box office success recording attendances of more than 33,000 with sixteen sell-outs.

Adelaide Film Festival Director Katrina Sedgwick said, ‘With a film festival on every corner we are very pleased that in such a short time we have been able to program Adelaide’s differently and receive such a positive response in the press, from the film industry and the public alike.

Our program presented some of the best of Australian and international feature film, documentary, shorts and animation programs plus cutting edge music video, computer games, on line and new media screenings. The Festival’s special events program included live performance, groundbreaking exhibitions, inventive installations, forums and workshops.’

Documentary films were a special feature of the AFF 2005 with the Festival’s collaboration with the Australian International Documentary Conference. The AIDC will return to Adelaide in 2007 to run concurrently with the Adelaide Film Festival once again.

The 2005 Festival was six days longer than the 2003 event and worked very well in Adelaide’s West End with the hub at the Greater Union Hindley Street complex together with a screening program at the nearby Mercury Cinema.
