23rd TEDDY Awards 2009 – The Winners

The TEDDY Jury nominated the following films for the Best Feature Film:
- The Fish Child (El niño pez) by Lucía Puenzo
- Raging Sun, Raging Sky (Rabioso sol, rabioso cielo) by Julián Hernández
- Soundless Wind Chime (Wu Sheng Feng Ling) by Kit Hung

Raging Sun, Raging Sky (Rabioso sol, rabioso cielo)

We award the Teddy for best feature to the Mexican film Raging Sun, Raging Sky for its masterful cinematography and its visionary use of color and sound - for its explorations of love, desire and sexuality within the framework of ancient mythology, juxtaposed with modern urbanity.

Wir vergeben den Teddy für den besten Spielfilm an den mexikanischen Film Raging Sun, Raging Sky für die meisterhafte Kameraarbeit und die visionäre Farb- und Tongestaltung sowie für die gelungene Auseinandersetzung mit den Themen Liebe, Begehren und Sexualität. Gekonnt wurde dabei der antike mythologische Rahmen mit moderner Urbanität in Kontrast gesetzt.

With his familiar cheeky style, Greyson’s operatic tour de force smashes conventional barriers of form and genre to reinvent the documentary. Integrating personal histories with an indictment of governments and pharmaceutical companies, Fig Trees colorfully expands the conversation about AIDS and AIDS activism from local struggles to global collaboration.

Mit seinem gewohnt frechen Stil überschreitet John Greysons opernhafte Tour de Force die Grenzen von Form und Genre und erfindet so den Dokumentarfilm neu. Durch die Verbindung von persönlichen Geschichten mit der Anklage gegen Regierungen und Pharmakonzerne erweitert Fig Trees anschaulich die Diskussion über AIDS und AIDS-Aktivismus weg von lokalen Kämpfen hin zu globaler Zusammenarbeit.

The Teddy Award fort he best short film goes to Barbara Hammer`s A Horse Is Not A Metaphor. An intimate visual essay about her journey to survive ovarian cancer - the film continues her ongoing investigation of the body and sexuality as well as the transformational possibilities of hope and healing within us all.

Der Teddy für den besten Kurzfilm geht an Barbara Hammers A Horse Is Not A Metaphor. Ein sehr intimes visuelles Essay über ihren Weg, den Eierstock-Krebs zu überleben. Der Film setzt ihre anhaltende Beschäftigung mit dem Körper und der Sexualität fort und verdeutlicht, welche Veränderungen Hoffnung und Heilung in uns allen bewirken können.
