Hamburg's first BarCamp for filmmakers will take place on 2nd October at the 17th Filmfest Hamburg. The "Digital Film Camp@Filmfest Hamburg", also referred to as DFC@Filmfest Hamburg, will feature filmmakers and Web 2.0 specialists discussing the digital future of film. Berlin's second "Digital Film Camp" ended on 17th April this year, posing the question "How do filmmakers work and finance themselves in the Web 2.0 Era?" The event was hosted and organized by Simon Chapuzzeau, owner of HomeBase Lounge Berlin.

Following the great success of the DFC, it seemed the obvious thing for Chappuzeau "to take the format on the road and help meet the high demand for exchange between filmmakers and digital natives on a federal basis." Filmfest Director Albert Wiederspiel is pleased at "the cooperation with Simon Chappuzeau, both in form and content." For Wiederspiel the DFC@Filmfest Hamburg signifies "an excellent opportunity within the framework of Filmfest Hamburg for web-friendly filmmakers to discover new opportunities and methods of production, financing, marketing and distribution."

The German film students of Hamburg Media School and their Swedish exchange students from Dramatiska Institutet in Stockholm, as well as Hamburger Medienakademie have already secured their participation at the DFC@Filmfest Hamburg.

The DFC@Filmfest Hamburg belongs to a type of events known as BarCamps (or Un-Conferences), an uncomplicated and effective conference format that has long since become well established far beyond the Internet scene. The first BarCamp took place in August 2005 in Palo Alto, California.

These ad-hoc non-conferences follow the open space method of exchanging information and learning from one another in an open environment. The focus lies on discussions, presentations, workshops (so-called "sessions") and the interaction between participants. Anyone who has a contribution to make or wishes to learn something is welcome and heartily invited to participate.

The sequence of events at the DFC@Filmfest Hamburg is decided on at the start of the event by its hosts and participants. Depending on the interests and the issues in question, the participants are divided into groups and either actively or passively take part in the "sessions". The contents and the results of the event are continually documented in corresponding blogs, social networks or portals on the Internet throughout the Film Camp. Comments, complementary remarks and links are published on the micro-blogging provider Twitter.
