The time of China Screen in Paris has comeOn the weekend of October 2, 3 and 4, we will be showing you in this 10th edition 8 new compelling documentaries around contemporary China, as before, at the Cinéma l'Entrepôt in the XIVth arrondissement of Paris. The attached small booklet gives you the details of the films. We will also be in other cities across France and Europe (Angers, Lille, Munich….)
On the geopolitical level, a lot has happened since the last edition of the festival. China seems to be moving closer to a belligerent road, when some say in reality, perhaps, the country is only shielding itself from unpredictable and unprecedented developments in the global governance. It is certain that Covid will have left its mark in the international opinion, and even more so, the surprising decisions surrounding the young populations of Hong Kong and those of the Uyghurs. China's image in the world has deteriorated very seriously. Just like that of the USA.
But whatever the geo-political developments, our China Screen Festival is only interested in it incidentally. Our gaze will remain focused, as from the beginning, on the Chinese populations, women and men, young and old, rich and poor, educated and illiterate, city dwellers and peasants… and their way of living their daily life. We are in the reality of contemporary China, on a human level. And that look is perhaps more necessary today than ever.
So you can dive into authentic stories around shamanism in isolated regions, memory and the relationship between generations, Western medicine adapted to the Chinese context, sexuality, the end of life, solidarity and mourning after natural disasters and much more…..but no glitter, no propaganda. You will discover films that will help us all to better understand the peculiarities, the riches & problems as well as current contradictions of the Chinese civil society
We need you to keep the festival and its Ciné-Club alive. I will therefore be very happy if I could count on your presence and am already delighted to welcome you for the traditional opening session at the Centre Sèvres, on Wednesday September 30 at 7:00 p.m., then for the sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Entrepôt cinema. I will get back to you with the programming details shortly. 25.09.2020 | Docs on the Spot's blog Cat. : FESTIVALS
