Dawn Westlake

"terroir" has been selected to compete in Festival La Lanterna in Genoa, Italy on March 5th, 2020. "terroir" is a musical doc that explores the mother-child relationship and how it can cloud our perception of very capable female leaders in all sectors of society. Written and helmed by Dawn Westlake, "terroir" was shot in Westlake's childhood home in Wheaton, IL, USA, in a vineyard in Peru, IL, USA and another in Vilafranca del Penedes, Spain. Font Romeu, France also provides a snowy, mountain backdrop for the first scenes.

Pol Carrizo Vilarroig of Imatge Barcelona shot/edited and did the film's considerable visual effects. An original score was written (and Westlake's voice was coached/mixed) by GC Johnson of Acoustic Labs. "terroir" features the professional acting debut of Lilly Johnson who plays Dawn in 1969 and her mother in approximately 1930.

"terroir" has won 2 awards, in Bogota, Colombia during its world premiere, and in a festival presented at the National Film Archive of India in Pune.
