MIFF@CinefestOZ Festival presents WA Premiere: Aim High in Creation!

-OFFICIAL CINEFESTOZ MEDIA RELEASE-

MIFF@CinefestOZ Festival presents WA Premiere: Aim High in Creation!

CinefestOZ audiences are offered rare insight into the mechanics of North Korean propaganda film with the hilarious West Australian Premiere of Aim High in Creation!

Aim High in Creation! is a presentation of the Melbourne International Film Festival, MIFF Premiere Fund at CinèfestOZ.

“We're thrilled to announce the filmmakers responsible for this unique and colourful comedy will be presenting it to WA audiences for the first time at CinèfestOZ this year,” said Festival Director Malinda Nixon.

Aim High in Creation! is a revolutionary comedy about the cinematic genius of late North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il.

At the heart of this cinematic experience is a groundbreaking experiment: the making of a film-within-a-film based on the rules laid out in the former North Korean leader's treatise Manifesto on the Art of the Cinema.

“This film will be presented by the accomplished Australian documentary making team of Director Anna Broinowski (Forbidden Lie$) and Producer Lizzette Atkins who have a fascinating story to tell about creating this highly entertaining film,” said Festival Director Malinda Nixon.

“In a gutsy world first, Broinowski goes into Pyongyang to interview the people behind it's socialist propaganda films, and in a hilarious twist, ends up creating one of these films herself in an effort to stop coal seam gas exploration near her home in Sydney.”

“Well-known Australian actors Jacqueline MacKenzie, Susan Prior, Peter O’Brien and Kathryn Beck join a cast of actors to create an anti-capitalist drama telling the tale of the evils of mining, North Korean cinema style.

Aim High In Creation! forges an astonishing human bond between North Korea's filmmakers and their western counterparts and reveals an unexpected connection with the most isolated nation on Earth: Filmmakers, no matter where they work, are family.
