EFP’s EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS and PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE alumni with 37 titles at the Festival de Cannes 2024

THE APPRENTICE by Ali Abbasi produced and coproduced by former POM's Ruth Treacy (2021, Ireland), Ditte Milsted (2017, Denmark) and Nima Yousefi (2021, Sweden).

European Film Promotion (EFP) and its member organisations are delighted to announce that 32 former participants of EFP’s PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE programme from 22 countries and 14 SHOOTING STARS from 7 countries will be celebrating the premiere of their films in Cannes.

Ali Abbasi’s biography about former US president Donald Trump, The Apprentice, is running in the Competition and brings together former Producers on the Move Ruth Treacy (Ireland), Ditte Milsted (2017, Denmark) and Nima Yousefi (Sweden). Ruth and Nima met during the PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE programme 2021. Frank Hoeve from The Netherlands (PoM, 2018) and Gilles Chanial from Luxembourg (PoM, 2013) co-produced the Competition title All We Imagine as Light by Payal Kapadia.

Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel’s first feature film Armand, which is premiering in Un Certain Regard, is a Norwegian production by Dyveke Björkly Graver (PoM, 2019) and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar (PoM, 2022) together with the Dutch Producer on the Move from the same year, Derk-Jan Warrink.

This year’s French Producer on the Move Delphine Schmit is involved in the short film Across the Waters by Viv Li.

Five former European Shooting Stars are in front of the camera in four of the Competition films, including Franz Rogowski (Germany, 2018/Bird by Andrea Arnold), Ingvar Sigurdsson (Iceland, 1999/The Shrouds by David Cronenberg), Melvil Poupaud (France, 1998/Marcello Mio by Christophe Honoré). The Danish European Shooting Stars from 2015 and 2021, Joachim Fjelstrup and Victoria Carmen Sonne are starring together in The Girl With the Needle by Magnus von Horn.

EFP is delighted to welcome Dmytro Sukhanov as a guest producer from Ukraine this year. The co-founder of Kiev-based Toy Cinema will take part in the PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE programme on site. Dmytro produced the successful multi-awarded Ukranian comedy My Thoughts Are Silent by Antonio Lukich and was also involved as a co-producer in the spy thriller Legacy of Lies by Adrian Bol. He is currently producing Honeymoon, the feature film debut by Zhanna Ozirna.

Both programmes are made possible thanks to the support of the Creative Europe - MEDIA Programme of the European Union and the participating national film institutes, EFP’s member organisations.
