Top prizes for Un Certain Regard 2022
Top prizes for Un Certain Regard were announced tonite at Cannes.
Best film went to Les Pires - "The Worst Ones" directed by Lise Akoka & Romane Gueret (France). The film concerns a film shooting in Picasso, a suburb of Boulogne-sur-mer in north France and the casting of four teenagers - “worst ones?
Jury prize went to the first Pakistani film to screen at Cannes - Joyland by Saim Sadiq about the youngest son of a family who falls for a young trans starlet.
Best screenplay went to Palestinian-Israeli film director and screenwriter Maha Haj for Mediterranean Fever about a flailing Palestinian writer in Haifa's Arab community whose neighbour becomes his subject that he thinks is involved in criminal enterprizes.
Best Performance Prize (jointly awarded)
Adam Bessa in Harka
Best actress went to Vicky Krieps for her portrayal of Empress Elizabeth of Austria in Corsage directed by Marie Kreutzer (Austria).
The Coup de cœur Prize went to Rodeo by Lola Quivoron about the daredevil biking sport and a cross-bitume gang that a young woman infiltrates.
Reruns of the films in Paris will take place from June 1 to 7 at the Reflet Médicis.
Focused on arthouse, artistically daring films, the 2022 Un Certain Regard Competition has included 20 feature films – seven of which are first features also competing for the Caméra d’or. The opening film was Mathieu Vadepied’s Father and Soldier. Chaired by actress-director-producer Valeria Golino, the Jury included director Debra Granik, actress Joanna Kulig, actor-singer Benjamin Biolay and actor-producer Edgar Ramírez.
