The German Film Music Day in Cannes May 21Film music made in Germany - At the 60th Film Festival in Cannes, Monday May 21 2007, is given over to German film music. The guest of honour of GERMAN FILM MUSIC is the film music composer Klaus Doldinger, who wrote the score for the films THE BOAT, THE NEVER ENDING STORY and others. The German Film Music Day is organised by Soundtrack_Cologne and mediamusic:nrw, and presented by the Composers' Club - Deutscher Komponistenverband and the German Composers Association in cooperation with FFACE, the European association of film music composers. "We are very pleased with this initial cooperation of the associations and hope that it will be followed by many common activities ", say the board of management, Jörg Evers (German Composers Association), John Groves (Composers Club), Matthias Hornschuh (mediamusic:nrw) and Michael P. Aust (managing director SoundTrack_Cologne). The wide-ranging programme presents German film music in its various facets: Short talks will provide an overview of the various aspects, and will present composers, orchestras, consultants, publishers, film music events, and others. The guests include composer Rainer Fabich, DKV/CC/FFACE, Hansjörg Kohli, ZDF, Mike Beilfuß, Cinema Musica, Patrick Strauch, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Volker Kufahl, International Film Festival Braunschweig. The four directors Daniel Seideneder (TRUCK STOP GRILL), Kristof Kannegießer ( L.H.O.), Michael Dreher (FAIR TRADE) and Erim Giresunlu (DOPPELZIMMER - DOUBLE ROOM) from the NEXT GENERATION Programme of GERMAN FILMS will talk about their approach to film music. Composers Klaus Doldinger, Wilbert Hirsch, Jochen Schmidt-Hambrock, H.P. Ströer and Matthias Hornschuh will discuss the current situation of film music in Germany. MADE IN NORTH RHINE-WESTPHALIA is presented by Daniel Kothenschulte of the Frankfurter Rundschau, and describes the thriving media-music environment in and around Cologne. Kölsch in Cannes - the final event of GERMAN FILM MUSIC is a reception, starting in the early evening and dedicated to Cologne, the City of Film Music.
