‘PAINTED SKIN II’ (2012) at Cannes

Asian film ‘Painted Skin II’ takes Cannes by storm.

Saturday May, 19th ‘PAINTED SKIN II’ (2012) held a press conference to debut this ambitious new Chinese epic.

DIRECTOR AND PRODUCER OF ‘THE PAINTED SKIN II’ SPEAK:

“We wanted the have the best actors possible and the best kind of digital effects possible which took four years and after doing this we really wanted to come here to Cannes to present our work for the past four years.

"Painted Skin set a bar back when it was released in 2008. And now we really wanted to improve on that and really focus on certain things that were very distinct. We wanted to use themes like love and resurrection using art direction and make sure that we are setting a new bar on the type of movies coming out of China right now and have a discussion with Western movies and to kind of be on the same level.

"Basically these major human emotions they affect everyone in life but in times of trouble it shows the characters dealing with them dealing with them in very different results and this film really represents that when you watch it.“

‘PAINTED SKIN II’ OFFICIAL PRESS:

“Directed by Wuershan and starring award-winning Chinese actress Zhou Xun (who recently completed a starring role in the epic international production "Cloud Atlas" with Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant, Halle Berry and Susan Sarandon), PAINTED SKIN II is a multi-million dollar fantasy film that explores the choices people make when faced with love, life and death.

Xiaowei is a spirit who has been imprisoned for violating the laws of the demon world. When rescued by the bird spirit Que’r (Mini Yang), Xiaowei makes it clear that she is only interested in one thing – becoming human. In order to do this, Xiaowei must consume the heart of a stranger. Princess Jing (Vicki Zhao), once the most beautiful woman in her kingdom until a brutal disfiguring, has been betrothed to a man she does not love. When Jing finally finds her true love, General Huo Xin (Chen Kun), she is devastated to learn that he has been bewitched by Xiaowei. Knowing that in her current state, she is unable to compete with Xiaowei’s beauty, Princess Jing strikes a deal with Xiaowei – exchanging her heart for Xiaowei’s perfect skin.”
