Thankfully, the flight on AirAsia to London Standsted was uneventful. I was so happy that they had personal "handheld entertainment" units - rental for flight $30 R. I was able to watch some movies & TV, listen to music and play games. Everything went like clockwork after my arrival. The passport control took 45 minutes. I picked up my bag, purchased a $19 GBP Stansted Express train ticket with $100 Euros, giving me British Pounds as change so I am set for the next two days as far as cash is concerned. I caught the 1am train to Liverpool Street Station. The last one was at 1:30am, so I'm glad to have made the connection. At the Liverpool Street Station, attendants are throughout the station waiting to lock it up and pointing you all the way through. One nice gentleman saw me trying to use the local pay phone and when he saw that the number I needed to call was local, he let me use his cell phone - so kind! I informed my host of my location and that I would be arriving shortly. I walked around the corner of the station to "Stop C" where Bus 214 was just pulling up. It runs 24 hours, but good timing is always nice. I showed the driver where I was going on the map I printed from my host, and he alerted me when we were there. A short walk later and I was ringing the bell of my friend's row house in Kentish Town, near Camden. We chatted for a bit while I was briefed on keys, the guestroom, bathroom and surrounding neighborhood. My friend is a school headmaster and had to leave for work at 5:30am. I am on my own to roam the streets of London and see the sights!
