XV Ischia Film Festival: the winners

All the awards from the two juries of the 2017 edition

The International Jury and the Italian Jury of the Ischia Film Festival have chosen the winners of the 15th Ischia Film Festival.

The International Jury, composed by Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi, director and screenwriter Miguel Barros and producer Dagmar Jacobsen, deliberated:

Ischia Film Award for Best Feature Film
IMMORTALITY by Mehdi Fard Ghaderi

Motivation of the jury
Let's give this movie the best feature film award for the brave use of a single location in a single shot. Beyond his mastery, we recognize that it is a well-written and recited movie whose purpose is to provide a unique fresco in modern Iran. What a success!
Special mention to:

Aragonese Castle Award for Best Director
Alessandro Aronadio for the ORECCHIE movie

Motivation of the jury
We reccomend mr. Aronadio for the best director because we believe his film uses humorous tension and imagination in a well-balanced way, the story proceeds rhythmically by getting a really well-built movie.
Epomeo Award for Cinematographic Photography
Rocco Marra and Roberta Allegrini for the movie CAINA

Motivation of the jury
We consider Cain's cinematography a faithful mirror of cruelty and the lack of empathy that the film itself denounces. The camera keeps the distance, the camera just looks. Images are gray, inconsistent, dark, lightless, hopeless.
Avenir at the best scenery
George Thomson for the movie LE MONDE DONT ON REVE N'EXISTE PAS

Motivation of the jury
Choosing the landscape - an unspoilt nature in which people still have time to live in contrast to a modern apartment in a chaotic city - is perfect for telling the story of a fleeing world.
Ischia Film Award for Best Short Film
SELFIE by David M. Lorenz

Motivation of the jury
We award this film for the best short film for the precise use of modern technologies, for the intelligent use of parallel mounting and for the clear and far-sighted use of film discourse in such a limited time. What a hit!
Special mention to:
THE SILENCE OF Farnoosh Samedi and Ali Asgari
THE TRANSFER by Michael Grudsky

Motivation of the jury
We have decided to give the special mention for these two exceptional shorts that underline the need for communication in such tangled society. Both works, albeit very different, offer a clear statement of strong and powerful princes.
The Italian Jury, composed by film critic Gianni Canova, journalist Franco Dassisti and stage designer Daniela Ciancio, has deliberated:

Ischia Film Award at Best Documentary
UNWANTED HERITAGE by Irena Skoric

Motivation of the jury
"The maturity of a society can be measured by the relationship it establishes with the legacy of its past."
So it sounds like the phrase of architect Tomislav Premerl that opens this film. A meticulous work to reconstruct a relationship with an uncomfortable artistic-monumental legacy, which director Irena Skoric did not compromise with that time, for reasons of memories, began with a game: to complete a figurine album of the monuments of former Yugoslavia Tito. Wet testimonies of a past that was "daily" for many generations, now neglected or abandoned. And so, "I have it, I miss it", the director tells us the relationship that people and the territory of Croatia have kept with that History. And why it is important not to destroy the signs, especially those of artistic value, capable of more than others, to tell an age. Not to become like those who, by iconoclastic fury, destroy masterpieces of humanity like those of Palmira.

Special mention to:
ANOTHER ME by Claudio Casazza

Motivation of the jury
Often documentaries are content with the urgency of "telling" what. Claudio Casazza in Another also questions me also and above all about "how" to tell. His film not only dives into the disturbed universe of prisoners of sexual offenses in Bollate jail but breaks the naturalistic canons of movie language and uses the film syntax (from out of focus to retail) to find A form that calls the spectator into question and interrogates him on what he sees. From this point of view, thanks to the form created by the film, the title - in some way - all concerns us. Another me is, after all, each one of us.

BAYER Location Negata Location
THE INVISIBLE CITY [KAKUMA] by Lieven Corthouts

Motivation of the jury
Kakuma means "Nothing". In fact, Kakuma is a ghost town, grown up in nothingness, and soon became a place of hope and suffering. Director Lieven Courthouts, following with a pronounced poetic vein the affair of u
An 8-year-old girl gives us pictures of apocalyptic films and paintings by Van Gogh. What here are the geometric patterns of the roofs, all the same, of an immense oil stain that accommodates refugees fleeing from Conflict around Kenya. Children sent by exhausted parents. But children have a greater march and, against any forecast, they rise, organize, and build their future. In the middle of nowhere. Special attention to: Marco D'Amore for the interpretation of the short film MAN IN THE SEA by Emanuele Palamara Motivation of the juryA Marco d'Amore, intense protagonist of Man at Sea. Choosing a common man to stand on the right and cooperate with justice is a cage that slowly takes away certainties, affects and the very meaning of life. The actor interprets this descent into hell with progressive and growing suffering, creating a tormented soul location and empathy with the spectator sharing motives and paths.Premio Augustus Color under Saddam Wahidi's Location negated by MARY MOTHER Motivation Of the jury A place / no place. No one's land. A war-ravaged landscape, but also the sorrowful heart of a mother who is being punished for the fate of a son soldier in a fallen Afghanistan city under the Taliban. Among all the movies in the denied Location section, Mary Mother and the one with the places the most upsetting relationship: almost an impossible love story between a woman and a land that can no longer be loved ... who made a movie So deserves confidence and support because it can still explore its worlds and become them all.
