Stanley Tucci’s FINAL PORTRAIT Start of Shoot

SUPPORTING CAST ANNOUNCED FOR

Stanley Tucci’s

FINAL PORTRAIT

Geoffrey Rush, director Stanley Tucci and Armie Hammer in rehearsal

Stanley Tucci’s FINAL PORTRAIT, about the artist Alberto Giacometti, starts principal photography on 15 February. This, Tucci’s fifth directorial turn, is adapted from James Lord’s memoir ‘A Giacometti Portrait’.

Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush (Shine, Pirates of the Caribbean series) stars as Giacometti, and Armie Hammer (The Social Network, The Man From U.N.C.L.E) co-stars as Lord. The supporting cast includes Golden Globe winner Tony Shalhoub (TV’s Monk, Tucci’s Big Night) as Giacometti’s brother Diego, Sylvie Testud (La Vie en Rose) as the artist’s long suffering wife and Clémence Poésy (TV’s The Tunnel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows parts I and II) as his muse and lover.

In 1964, while on a short trip to Paris, the American writer and art-lover James Lord is asked by his friend, the world-renowned artist Giacometti, to sit for a portrait. The process, Giacometti assures Lord, will take only a few days. Flattered and intrigued, Lord agrees.

So begins not only the story of a touching and offbeat friendship, but, seen through the eyes of Lord, a uniquely revealing insight into the beauty, frustration, profundity and, at times, downright chaos of the artistic process.

FINAL PORTRAIT is a bewitching portrait of a genius, and of a friendship between two men who are utterly different, yet increasingly bonded through a single, ever-evolving act of creativity. It is a film which shines a light on the artistic process itself, by turns exhilarating, exasperating and bewildering, questioning whether the gift of a great artist is a blessing or a curse.

The film is produced by Gail Egan (A Little Chaos, A Most Wanted Man) for Potboiler Productions, Nik Bower (Suffragette, Selma, both as an executive producer) for Riverstone Productions and Ilann Girard for Arsam International (Lebanon, I, Anna). The film will shoot for four weeks at Twickenham Studios and on location around London. Gail Egan says: “This is an intriguing story of an unusual friendship between two quite different men but it’s also a story that gets under the skin of the artistic genius of Giacometti.  It’s really exciting to be working with Stanley again and with such an incredibly talented cast and crew.”

The Production Designer is James Merifield (A Little Chaos, The Deep Blue Sea), Director of Photography is Danny Cohen (Room, The King’s Speech), Costume Designer is Liza Bracey (Fortitude) and Casting Director is Nina Gold (Mr. Turner, Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens).  The Hair & Make-up Designer is Catherine Scoble (Fortitude, This is England ’90 and ’86) and Editor Camilla Toniolo (I Don’t Know How She Does It, Mildred Pierce) rounds out the creative team.  Tucci’s previous credits as a writer-director include Blind Date and Big Night. As an actor, his recent work includes the Hunger Games trilogy and Spotlight.

FINAL PORTRAIT is a Potboiler production in association with Olive Productions, Riverstone Pictures, Lowsun Productions and Arsam International. It is fully financed by Riverstone Pictures. International sales are through HanWay Films.
