Programme Completed: Vitality of Cinema in All of Its Forms

Encounters as additional competitive section will be introduced in 2020 for the first time. The 15 titles chosen for Encounters present the vitality of cinema in all of its forms. Each film presents a different way of interpreting the cinematic story: autobiographical, intimate, political, social, philosophical, epic, surreal. The films take up the challenge of shaping a world rather than reproducing it. Cristi Puiu’s new work will open this kaleidoscopic gallery. More on the programme here.

On Transmission

Special Programme at the 70th Berlinale

During the 70th Berlin International Film Festival, the anniversary will be celebrated with the special programme “On Transmission”. Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian has invited seven notable directors who will in turn each bring a guest to discuss cinematic art. Each conversation will be framed by two film screenings: the film by the contributing director and a contemporary work they have chosen. More on the programme here.
