Berlinale 71 Film Selection: Encounters, Panorama and Perspektive Deutsches KinoEncounters Regaining a Sense of Discovery
The competitive section Encounters was introduced in 2020. Its goal is to support new voices in cinema and to give more room to diverse narrative and documentary forms in the official film selection. A three-member jury will choose the winners for Best Film, Best Director and a Special Jury Award, and will announce them during the Berlinale Industry Event in March. This year’s line-up comprises 12 titles from 16 countries, among which seven are debut films. See the selection.
PanoramaBetween Doubt and Revolt – A Critical Look at Power Relations
Headstrong and moving: The Panorama of the 71st Berlinale presents 19 films, including 16 World premieres and six debut films. Strong new German films by Anne Zohra Berrached, Monika Treut, Henrika Kull and Ronny Trocker as well as diverse international filmmaking from 19 countries in 13 languages by Damien Odoul, Tony Stone, Prano Bailey-Jones and producer Roberto Minervini. See the overview.
Perspektive Deutsches KinoStay or Go? How and Where Do We Want to – or Can We – Live?
Three documentaries and three fiction films were selected from a total of 225 submitted films to create a Perspektive selection representative of this year. All six films are World premieres, and will be available for viewing online at the Industry Event. The selected films and their stories take us to places in Europe, America, Asia and Africa.
