Arclight Films Announces AURORA with MEGAN FOX

Leading entertainment company Arclight Films, led by Chairman Gary Hamilton (Hotel Mumbai, First Reformed), announced today the company has joined forces with Jordan Gertner (Spring Breakers, The Virgin Suicides) and Toby Gibson (The Lego Movie franchise) to produce and finance the suspense thriller Aurora, directed by Lazar Bodroža (A.I. Rising) and starring Megan Fox (Transformers franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The script is written by Pete Bridges, Toby Gibson, and Stuart Willis (Restoration). Tim Peternel will Executive Produce. Production is set to start in May 2020 in Serbia, which has emerged in recent years as a high-quality trending destination for international filmmaking.

 

Arclight will commence worldwide sales for the intense and hypnotic Aurora at the European Film Market.

 

Aurora tells the story of a female astronaut stationed in outer space to monitor solar storms that endanger earth. She discovers shock waves from solar storms are bending time pushing her into an emotional and psychological struggle with her past and present.

 

“We are delighted to continue championing stories with strong females at the helm. Aurora is a beautiful action-packed visual feast set in space and Megan is perfectly cast to play a character battling demons from her past.  We could not be happier to be working with Jordan, Toby and Lazar Bodroža once again to bring this beautiful and mesmerizing story to life,” said Hamilton.

Arclight Films’ recent productions include Academy Award® nominated feature First Reformed (for Best Original Screenplay), Hotel Mumbai starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer and Jason Isaacs which crossed $30 million at the worldwide box office to-date, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and won multiple awards including Best Feature at the Adelaide Film Festival, Best Director to Watch at Palm Springs International Film Festival and Best Editing at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards where it also received nominations in all the main categories, and Escape from Pretoria starring Daniel Radcliffe and Daniel Webber releasing theatrically in March 6th in the US and UK. Arclight Film’s recently premiered at Sundance 2020, Brandon Cronenberg’s Possessor which received great critical and audience acclaim.

Megan Fox made her film debut as Brianna Wallace in the Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen film, Holiday in the Sun. In 2007 she became an international superstar after playing Mikaela Banes in Michael Bay's big-budget blockbuster adaptation of Transformers continuing to play the role in what has become one of the most profitable Hollywood franchises to-date. Most recently, Fox joined the cast of Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise playing April O’Neil.

The fast-rising new talent Lazar Bodroža directed the international hit A.I. Rising that won five awards at the Belgrade Film Festival including Best Film and Best Director. Grindstone theatrically released the intimate sci-fi feature that portrayed a relationship between a cosmonaut and an android that tested the boundaries of human nature.  Arclight handled the worldwide rights for the film.

 

Jordan Gertner credits include the acclaimed box office hit film Spring Breakers starring Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson which premiered at Venice Film Festival and released by A24 and Sofia Coppola’s lauded film The Virgin Suicides starring Kirsten Dunst.  Additional credits include Yellow starring Sienna Miller, and Academy Award® nominee Melanie Griffith, Kiss the Bride released by MGM, Larry Clark’s Bully, Vincent Gallo’s Buffalo 66, Michael Winterbottom’s The Face of an Angel, and The Killer Inside Me starring Academy Award® winner Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba. Aurora will be the first feature produced under Gertner’s recently formed Dream Space Banner.

 

Toby Gibson is the producer and founder of Midnight Snack Productions with a mandate to produce innovative and commercially driven films for a global audience. Toby has contracted to Warner Bros. Pictures for over a decade as a Production Consultant for major motion pictures including The LEGO Movie 2, The LEGO Ninjago Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, Happy Feet Two, Legend Of The Guardians and Spike Jonze's and Where The Wild Things Are. Toby produced the award-winning sci-fi thriller Restoration, was the Unit Publicist for Warner Bros. multi Oscar award winning film Mad Max: Fury Road and past production credits include Superman Returns, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Stealth and Lucas Film’s US tent pole, Star Wars - Revenge of The Sith.
