The Other Cannes Awards

Tuesday, May 29------While the Main Competition Awards at the Cannes Film Festival generally get the lion's share of press (particularly the Palme d'Or, the Festival's highest honor), there are a number of other awards that are equally significant. Each one of the parallel sections of the Festival (Un Certain Regard, Directors Fortnight and the International Critics Week) bestows its own prizes. In addition, film critics and other guilds have their own set of awards. All in all, a prize of any sort from Cannes is the kind of thing one puts prominently on one's resume and which makes the industry stop and take notice.

So, for the sake of completeness, here are the other major awards of the 60th Cannes Film Festival:

Prix Un Certain Regard: "California Dreamin'" , directed by Christian Nemescu (Romania)
Prix Special du Jury Un Certain Regard: "Actresses," directed by Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi (France/Italy)
Jury Coup de Coeur: "Bikur Hatizmoret" (The Band's Visit) directed by Eran Kolirin (Israel)

Prix Regards Jeunes (Young Eyes Prize): "Control," directed by Anton Corbijn (UK)
Prix Art et Essai: "Garage," directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Ireland)
Label Europa Cinema Prize: "Control," directed by Anton Corbijn (UK)
SACD Prize for Best Short Film: "Meme pas Mort," directed by Claudine Natkin (France)

Grand Prize: "XXY," directed by Lucia Puenzo (Argentina)
The SACD French Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers Award: "Meduzot," directed by Etgar Keret Shira Geffen (Israel)
The Canal + Grand Prize - Best Short Film: "Madame Tutli-Putli," directed by Chris Lavis and Maciek Sczerbowski

Premier Prix: "Ahora Todos Parecen Contentos" (Now Everybody Seems to Be Happy), directed by Gonzalo Tobal (Universidad del Cine, Argentina)
