“The Secrets” Opens New York Selected Theaters Thanksgiving Weekend

By Maria Esteves - November 22, 2008

The 23rd Israel Film Festival (IFF) in New York celebrating Israel's 60th Anniversary presented by IsraFest Foundation premiere sold out 2nd screening of THE SECRETS , co-written directed by Avi Nesher, was held at the Clearview Cinemas, Sunday, November 2, 2008, 5:15 PM. A special Q&A with director Avi Nesher immediately followed the film. THE SECRETS premieres in selected theaters Thanksgiving weekend and opens theatrically Friday, December 12th.

THE SECRETS is Compassionate, Redemptive, Provocative, An Overwhelming Emotional Impact! The film depicts a divorced ex-convict French woman Anouk (Fanny Ardant) with terminal cancer who desperately seeks redemption for murdering her artist lover Joseph in his homeland, the ancient city of Safed (Safad, Zefat, Tsfat, Zfat, etc.), Israel. Two female students from an orthodox all girls seminary named Noami (Ania Bukstein) engaged to be married and thinking of becoming a Rabbi, and her roommate Michelle (Michal Shtamler) are assigned to provide Anouk with home care services. Despite the obstacles, Noami and Michelle seek to redeem Anouk according to the ancient rabbinical laws. The parallel intensity of spirituality and young women coming of age is extraordinary.
