PhotoPlus Expo 2014 Nikon Panel Coverage

The 31st Annual 2014 PhotoPlus International Conference and Expo (PPE 2014) NIKON Panel Discussion with award-winning documentary photographer/author Steve Simon, The Passionate Photographer, photographer/filmmaker Lucas Gilman and photographer/director Dixie Dixon commenced Thursday, October 30, 2014, 3:45 PM at Javits Convention Center, New York. Presented by PDNedu and Nikon, this exclusive event with NIKON Ambassadors Dixon, Gilman and Simon discussed their personal life journey in the art of photography, concepts of creation, dynamic lighting techniques, digital imaging and the inspiration the best is yet to come. NIKONPPE reception and raffle of NIKKOR lens (AF-S DX 18-300mm) immediately followed. Members of the photography industry, filmmakers, journalists, and Photo Plus attendees were present at this successful standing room only event.

Questions posed to the panel of leading experts by the audience included “What was the one assignment or job that made you feel that you made it in this field? Is there a professional standard you should be disclosing, how much Photoshop editing you should be doing? What is the best camera? What is the best form of contact for networking?

Artist Biography

DIXIE DIXON

Dixie Dixon is a director and commercial fashion photographer. Her passion has led her to shoot in Cannes, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Ibiza, and Barcelona for TV shows, commercial campaigns and editorial projects. Her work has been published in Rangefinder, PDN, Professional Photographers Magazine, Dapper Magazine, Living Magazine, Beverly Drive Magazine, and Nikon World. Dixon was named one of sixteen Nikon Ambassadors of the United States.

LUCAS GILMAN  

Lucas Gilman is a filmmaker and a leading adventure photographer. He works with National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, ESPN Magazine, ESPN.com, Men’s Journal, Outside Magazine, Manfrotto, Nikon, SanDisk, Land Rover, Red Bull, G-Technology, Garmin and GORE-TEX. Lucas appeared on NBC TODAY Show and MSNBC for documenting the second Largest Waterfall descended in a kayak, Good Morning America for documenting the first descent of Abiqua Falls in central Oregon, and CNN for his video on Abiqua Falls. Dixon was named Nikon Ambassador of the United States.

STEVE SIMON

Steve Simon is an Award-winning documentary photographer and author of critically acclaimed photography books such as The Passionate Photographer, chosen by Amazon as 2011 top-ten art and photography books. His work focus on the human condition, capturing life as he encounters it. He shines a light on important subjects and issues using the power of photography in the hope of facilitating positive change. His documentary work has been published in the New York Times Magazine, Mother Jones, Colors, Life, Time, Le Monde, Harpers, Macleans, Walrus, and featured in Visa Pour L'Image in Perpignan, France.
