Every April, cellu l’art Short Film Festival presents international short films in Jena, Central Germany. This young and vibrant university city comes alive with screenings and events revolving around shorts from all genres: fiction, animation, documentary and experimental. Films from all over the world compete in the international competition while an annual country focus programme allows the viewers to get to know the (short film) culture of a specific country. In 2017, cellu l’art presented stories from Iran, delving into propaganda, underground cinema and official fiction films. The programme for the upcoming edition focuses on Scotland. Special interests can be satisfied in programmes for horror films, queer films and more.
cellu l’art started out as a project by media science students in 1999 and has since grown rapidly and dynamically, becoming more diverse and more international while still retaining a loveable, friendly ambience. Traditionally, the festival begins with an open air event with live music and short films. The award ceremony on Saturday has become the highlight of the festival week. The handing out of the awards by the professional jury and the youth jury is accompanied by the screening of the awarded films.
Volksbad (a former public bath house turned cultural venue) has been the main spot of the festival for a few years now and makes for a special atmosphere for cinematic adventures.
The Internet Film Festival will be held December 1-2, 2018. Call for submissions is now open. With 23 categories, your film will have a showcase.

The Northern Wave International Film Festival will be celebrated from the 27tht to the 29th of October 2017 Rif in Iceland at the Freezer hostel and theatre. The philosophy of the festival, upon which its name is based, is Nouvelle Vague, or New Wave. Like Nouvelle Vague, Northern Wave attempts to revive the recognition of film making as an art form and the director as artist/author. An important goal of the festival is to develop relationships between experienced filmmakers and emerging filmmakers in Iceland and other countries. We are a visionary festival that celebrates artistic and ground braking films by filmmakers who dare to take risks.
The festival consists of a short film (all genres) section and, for the first time ever in an Icelandic film festival, a music video section. Bands will be encouraged to attend the festival and support their videos with a concert during the weekend. In this way, the musicians can make contacts with filmmakers and vice versa.
The Northern Wave weekend consist of a numerous screenings of a variety of international short films. The program also includes a lecture from a professional from the film industry, a fish soup competition at the local fish market and numerous concerts and events during the weekend.
Seek Films’ “All of Me,” a short film by director Daphne Schmon, will premiere at Cannes Marché du Film 2017. The film, created by an all-female team, will screen on Friday, May 26 at 8:30 PM at Olympia 2 (5 rue d’Antibes, Cannes 06400). (Festival badge or invitation is required for entry.) &nbs...
A festival that is focused on pushing the boundaries of animation. The programme is 'filling the void' - bringing attention to the unused potential of the technique. Films are retrospective as well as premiering, and from any country.
VOID is screening films, inviting directors, and staging masterclasses and events. We are a competitive festival, giving out several short film awards.
We are looking forward to welcoming you as a guest or contributor, and once again share the stories that are brought to life only in animation!
Filmmakers who would like to get their short films qualified for the 2018 Academy Awards are urged to enter this year's MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival, which will not only screen to over 100,000 film buffs in over 250 cinemas across 6 continents, but will do a full week's run in one cinema in the county of Los Angeles. This theatre booking means every film selected as a finalist in the 2017 MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival is eligible to enter the Oscar Competition for 2018.
