Daewit

Director: David Jansen.

An angel, a wolf child, a cat. The film "Daewit", animated in the tradition of wood cut technique, tells the story of an abandoned child, who grows up with wolfs after his mother rescued him from his violent father. Daewit becomes a man who is weary of living and noticed that he inherited some of his father’s characteristics. After an enigmatic journey full of privations and in quest for identity he finds his peace in forgiveness.

Prelude

Director: Simon Welch.

Sequences of a contemporary Cinderella practising a Bach prelude and struggling to keep up with the tyrannical precision of metronomic rhythm are juxtaposed with images of her daily life, thereby generating the soundtrack for her own “film”. The metronome precisely beats time in a mechanical rather than a “musical” manner and may be a help or hindrance to development. The repetitious nature of piano practice suggests that the girl’s existence is also repetitive and that negative aspects of her relationship with her mother may be a prelude for future relationships.

Zinneke

Director: Remi Allier.

Nine year-old Thomas spends most of his days at the flea market closely observing the wheelings and dealings of the market's sellers . His desire to be one of them leads him to embark on a one-night adventure that overwhelms him.

Dios por el Cuello

Director: José Trigueiros.

Its Sunday, and Pablo, 8 years old, has an invitation to a very special but also forbidden birthday party. Its Sunday, and for the first time, Pablo is going on a door-to-door preaching with his mother. Its Sunday, and behind each door, there is a challenge, a test, a surprise.  Its Sunday.

Meet Indie Filmmaker: ALMARITSU

user
ALMARITSU, directed by Damien Montaron, is a recent submission to ÉCU 2010’s Experimental film category. By Sophie Nellis Q: Given that it’s the only word spoken in the film, what does “Almaritsu” mean? The word “Almaritsu” has no verbal definition. It’s a word which contains all words. Almaritsu is a cry, it’s a smile, it’s confidence, it’s a free breath. In fact, this word contains everythi...
