My treat for today: after a great coffee in the sun by the river Douro... The screening began at 3 something RABIES (KALEVET)by Aharon Keshales (Isr) - 90 min. The film is fresh from the EFM market presentation and Fantasporto is the first stop on the festival circuit, I bet it is not the last one. I chatted with Aharon before and after the movie, he is so proud to have amade the first horror movie in israel for the israelians, this came as a big surprise too for me.Lots of dialogue : he almos...
Into each life some volcano ash must fall....and that is why, dear disinterested readers, you did not bump into me on the Croisette last month but may have seen me on the Ginza as the rains fell on Cannes. We have a lot of catching up to do since L annee derniere a Carlsbad ....via many European Smiles at the last Mlada Boleslav Festival of Smiches, as the Czechs so charmingly call it when humour illuminates the human face, then across to merry Moravia for the Znojmo Festival of Media and Gastr...
Scott Hillier's Cannes Update
Ahh.. Cannes.. The mammoth, the Big-Daddy, the Fois Gras of all film festivals. The must-be-there, must-drink-bucketloads of Rosé, must show my power and strength (and the new shoes - although the blistering will be painful!) event of the year for everyone involved in European cinema. OR IS IT?
So Sundance made love with Raindance, deliciously long-legged beauties sauntered the Croisette in the oh-so- slinkiest of dental floss inspired micro skirts. ...

A fun exciting way for locals and visitors to Cannes to take part in the festival and see some films, without a badge, is at the plage Macé. Showing a film every night, the cinema on the beach is open to everyone and is free of charge. Most relax in the comfortable beach chairs that are set up, and snuggle up with a blanket that is provided to ward off the chilly night. Others bring snacks and make themselves comfortable in the sand adjacent of the chairs. At 9:30pm its lights, camera, ac...

Cannes may be a festival for film, but it's also a social festival: many people come to Cannes solely for the parties.
"I've never been to a film at the festival," says Cannes veteran, who comes to the festival every year to attend some of the best parties and most exclusive clubs in the world.
While most of these parties are expensive and very exclusive, there are some, especially during the day, that are more opened to the general public--at least to ...
Before leaving the Palais for a much-needed rest in anticipation of the parties that dot the Croisette, take a moment to wander around the International Village, where many of the tents offer apéro and mingling opportunities for film professionals.
At the CST tent, large groups of people met to talk and enjoy the offerings of the tent outdoors, even if it was a little bit chilly to be standing outside--a strange surprise for Cannes veterans, accustomed to sun and beach weathe...
A dancer on the Croisette does a Michael Jackson impersonation along to "Black or White."
So it seems that this year, destiny wanted to keep us (and your films) from getting to Cannes. Eyjafjallajokull, Iceland's unpronounceable volcano and its resulting ash cloud, inclement weather, train strikes and general mayhem all round have conspired to make life difficult but nothing stops ÉCU from getting to Cannes! So it is with pleasure that I am able to announce that the European Independent Film Festival - Europe's foremost festival for independent filmmakers -will be at Cannes...
by Marla Lewin We arrived in Cannes and went right to the Carlton hotel and I said hello to Brian Grazer in the lobby, who said he was excited to be in Cannes for the opening night premiere of his film Robin Hood! We had flown in on the same plane as Donna Langley co-chairman of Universal. We were all relieved when the airline held our connecting flight to Nice because our Los Angeles flight had been late. We had heard rumors in the airport that officials were considering closing airports...
Not even volcanic ash could keep some of the world's most prominent international film stars from arriving in Cannes for the opening ceremonies of the 63rd annual Film Festival. The premiere of Robin Hood Wednesday night was preceded by a star-studded red carpet event attracting fans and photographers from all over the world. Paparazzi camped out overnight on Tuesday to stake out the perfect shot of the evening's festivities.

It's that time of year again...
After huge storms and surfable waves in the Mediterranean last week, the opening of the Cannes International Film Festival yesterday looked like it would be blessed with sun... until the skies opened on the red carpet premiere of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, out of competition.
Today, however, the sunny blue skies of the Côte d'Azur seem to have returned; the beaches are beginning to be populated with beautiful people, and throngs are crow...
By the looks of the storm-wrecked beaches days before, it would have seemed impossible for Cannes to transform into the miniature Hollywood it has become this week. Just days before the festival kicked off, the city was hit with Hawaii-sized waves and beach-ravaging winds. The coastline, speckled with restaurants and watersport rental agencies, was severely damaged. Entrepreneurs acted quickly to repair their destroyed properties, and for the first time there was a feeling of stress...
