Prize Money at Record 79,000 Euros
The Golden Doves of the 55th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film were presented on Saturday night. A total of 16 prizes were awarded during the closing festivities in Leipzig’s Central Theater, with a record 79,500 euros of prize money having been awarded during the festival week.

The 55th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film was officially opened on Monday. The Saxon State Minister of the Arts, Sabine von Schorlemer, and Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung welcomed 750 guests from around the world to the sold-out CineStar theater. Festival director Claas Danielsen delivered the opening address, in which he laid out urgent media policy goals.

Some 2,850 films from 77 countries were submitted to this year's International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, among them 2,200 documentaries and 650 animated films. The number of entries is down slightly from last years, when DOK Leipzig received a record
