"Despicable". Thousands of kids, plastic yellow minions and unanimated studio execs took over the LA Film Festival "Closing Night" this afternoon at the World Premiere of Universal's new animation 'Despicable Me'.
Behind dark 3D glasses I tried to hide the fact I'm not 6 anymore but still had a lot of fun, especially at the after-party enjoying the spectacle of Universal's marketing maching eating children whole. (Oh and the film was funny too)
At the Universal fun-park themed after-party (which had lots of sideshow games and fortunately adult-food too and alcohol too) Steve Carrell's evil animated supervillain posed with me for this pic. Inside tip: As this film takes over the world, Russian accents are about to become supercool. (the Russian poster for Despicable Me is so cool too, it could become a collector's item).
And in LA this week, I may make a superhip fashion statement wearing my 'Despicable Me' glasses around town. If the world is so much funnier looking through those 3D coloured glasses, I'm keeping those on!
So the 2010 LA Film Festival ended today on a high note. And not just because too many kids had drunk too much red cordial. But because today with the festival took me to the moon (in 3D, in Despicable Me), yesterday to Iran (with the badly titled but boldly shot 'Dog Sweat'), Friday back to the badlands of the Australian criminal underground with the well executed 'Animal Kingdom'... and like all those happy kids at the end of ´Despicable Me' drunk on the joys of 3D animation and too much Coca Cola, after seeing so many good films this week, this festival has given me ADD.
