Wednesday, September 27---The official Film Poster of the 44th edition of the New York Film Festival, which opens on Friday, has been unveiled. The poster captures the iconic image of legendary film director Federico Fellini on the set, directing his masterpiece FELLINI SATYRICON in 1969.
The photograph is one of the best known and most celebrated of world renowned photographer Mary Ellen Mark . For almost four decades, she has produced pictures that reflect a high level of humanism and world culture.
She is a contributing photographer to The New Yorker and has published photo-essays and portraits in such publications as Life Magazine, New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, and Vanity Fair. Her connection to the film world includes her collaboration with her husband/director Martin Bell on the American indie documentary classic STREETWISE (1985), which was inspired by her photo essay on runaway children in Seattle.
Now considered one of Mark's signature photographs, the image of Fellini has now become an important addition to the roster of film poster collaborations with living artists, produced by the Film Society of Lincoln Center to celebrate more than four decades of the New York Film Festival.
