Dutch director Heddy Honigmann and the "Forum" section of the Berlin International Film Festival will be honoured this year in IndieLisboa's "Independent Hero" program. The 7th Lisbon International Independent Film Festival will be held between 22 April - 2 May.
Heddy Honigmann Retrospective
Heddy Honigmann is one of the "Independent Heroes" of IndieLisboa's next edition. The Lisbon Independent Film Festival will pay tribute to this renown documentary filmmaker with an unprecedented full retrospective of her work. Besides all her multi-awarded documentaries, this program will also include some lesser-known titles, such as Honigmann's fiction films from the beginning of her career, as well as some episodes from a television series she also directed. This is the first time nearly all these titles will be screened in Portugal. El Olvido and Forever are the only ones already exhibited in previous editions of IndieLisboa (Forever won the Audience Award in 2007). Heddy Honigmann will be in Lisbon to present and discuss her films with the public.
Berlin's Forum in Lisbon
The other "Independent Hero" at IndieLisboa 2010 is the Berlinale "International Forum of New Cinema" which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2009. Placing emphasis on young filmmakers, the Forum is still the most daring section in the Berlinale program. The Forum explores the boundaries between art and cinema, but does not aim at presenting one particular idea. Its goal is to establish connections, to allow its films to enter into dialogue, or sometimes even contradict one another. And that is something which has not changed over the last 40 years. "We are still just as excited by every new voice, by every new generation of filmmakers", says Christoph Terhechte, current director of the Forum. In tribute to the Forum's anniversary, IndieLisboa 2010 decided to screen a selection of movies exhibited there throughout these four decades. Thirteen filmmakers, who have also already shown their work at the Forum, were asked to select their favourite films from other directors who have also exhibited their features there. After being held at Kino Arsenal last year, to commemorate the original inaugural event, this is the first time this program will be exhibited outside Germany. Some filmmakers with features included in this tribute will also be attending IndieLisboa 2010.
