The films in the competition and non competition sections of the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation films (M.I.F.F 09) have been declared.
The documentaries -Songs, Colours & Market by Joshy Joseph, Children of the Pyre by Rajesh S. Jala , Anwar- Dream of a Dark Night by Anwar Jamal and short film Vitthal by Vinoo Choliparambil are some of the much talked about films of the year that have made it to the competitive section of the festival. Vitthal has already won awards at the 6th Dubai International Film festival and the Asian Festival of First Films, Singapore.
In the Non-Competition section, Faiza Ahmad Khan's Supermen of Malegaon and Word Within The Word by Rajula Shah have been selected. Supermen of Malegaon is widely acclaimed and has won the audience choice award at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles
From this edition of the Festival, International and Indian Competition Sections have been merged into one Competition Section. The award money has also been enhanced from this M.I.F.F. in each category and the total award money now is Rs. 22.75 lakhs along with Golden/Silver Conches in different categories of Competition. "Dr. V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award" will be awarded to an Indian film maker for his/her contribution to documentary film movement, with cash award and trophy.
The 11th edition of the festival organized by the Films Division received a record 864 entries from 37 countries this year. The festival will be held from 3rd to 9th February at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point.
