The Adelaide Film Festival is delighted to win The Inside Film Magazine IF Award for Festival of the Year, announced at the Inside Film IF Awards on Friday 16 November. Coming hot on the heels of the Adelaide Film Festival’s inclusion in Variety’s Top 50 International Film Festivals, the IF Award for Festival of the Year is yet another ringing endorsement of one of the youngest but most dynamic and innovative festivals in the world. Festival Director, Katrina Sedgwick, says, ‘The festival team and board were overjoyed at the news. As a relatively new event on the Australian and international scenes it is incredibly encouraging to have our festival recognised in this way’. The Inside Film Awards are the people's choice awards for Australian films. The yearly event is attended by Australian and international film industry luminaries, and celebrates and champions Australian film and creative talent. This year 22 festivals were in contention for the Festival of the Year award. Film festivals were accredited by the process of application then short-listed with IF magazine deciding the winner. Past winners of The Inside Film Magazine IF Award for Festival of the Year have included Sony Tropfest, Sydney Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival and Popcorn Taxi. The 2009 Adelaide Film Festival will run from 19 February to 1 March.
