4th Annual BAHAMAS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (BIFF), showcasing leading independent film in the paradisal Bahamian isles.
Extending premium hospitality to filmmakers, BIFF furnishes travel and lodging for accepted entrants. A filmmaker retreat is held at a surprise location the day before the festival commences, providing participants an opportunity to bond and create life-long connections. Last year's retreat took place at Tiger Woods' and Ernie Els' estate, Albany House, with surprise dinner guest - and Bahamian resident - Nicolas Cage. With industry professionals and distributors in attendance, BIFF provides opportunities for filmmakers to make deals and obtain distribution. The theme for this year's festival is The Spirit of Freedom, said Leslie Vanderpoole, but the festival welcomes all genres and forms, and will host screenings in several different programs - including World Cinema and New Visions - regardless of theme. Other special programs include Family Films, Nordic Spotlight, Caribbean Spotlight, and the Caribbean Spotlight Script competition. Many BIFF alumni have moved on to further success, including Tennyson Bradwell (DORIAN BLUES), David Gordon Green (UNDERTOW), Lee Daniels (SHADOWBOXER), Ryan Fleck (HALF NELSON), and Gregg Araki (MYSTERIOUS SKIN).
