What a great surprise offered to festival goers yesterday on the occasion of its 60th anniversary:
The surprise was not small, and barely announced prior to it: nothing less than U2 band attending the screening of U23D and performing an impromptu concert on the top of the stairs prior to its screening.
Around 1 in the morning 10 000 people were gathered around the red carpet and were treated with 3 songs from Bono and Band.wishing a happy anniversary to the festival and a thank you to Thierry Fremaux who made it happen.Clearly the hour and half long waiting in queue in tuxedo was worth it. Something to remember for years. The film screened to a full ecstatic audience.
The younger ones were waiving cell phones in the dark while others were simply applauding during the film louder than the actual audience in the film.
The film is a filmed version of the concert from Buenos Aires and plays like a concert more than a film.
Sound is absolutely brillant, 3D adds something unique.
Go for it if you get a chance to watch it in a good theatre...like this one.
Cellphone video teaser sequence.
