After many years of scattered Cannes awards honoring one or two projects from so-called "southern" countries... 2023 is an exceptional year for African and Arab cinema.
11 films from these regions were featured in the various Cannes sections this year. Among them, 7 feature films, including 4 directed by women, received financial support from OIF.
A harvest of awards for these films in the official selection:
"This year's recognition of African filmmakers at Cannes rewards a long process of training, support and national financing in several African countries, supported by the development of co-productions between French-speaking countries. For 30 years, the OIF has been contributing to this fundamental movement. "
The Fonds Image de la Francophonie supports the development, production and post-production of films and series (fiction, animation, documentary) in member countries of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie known as "the South": since 1990, the OIF Fund has supported nearly 1,900 films and series. In this way, the OIF is an essential link in the financing of numerous film project productions from Africa, the Middle East, Haiti and South-East Asia.
The IOF team is at your disposal for any expertise on the financing of cinemas and the audiovisual sector in the South.
