Aissa Maïga's Marcher sur l'eau (Above Water) was a special treat at the Cannes special screening section of the 74th Cannes Film Festival. Set in the Azawak of West Africa in Niger Aissa follows a nomadic family in an area deprived of water. Beautifully told and made by the filmmaker and filmed by Rousslan Dion.
Maïga shows the close bonds of a family within a community in search of water. She follows the journey from walking for miles in search of scarce water and later tapping into a borehole and bringing water to the area. "NGO Amman Inman" is a project that makes it possible to search for water in the Azawak, for children to go to school and for the women to learn about women rights.
